Flatoren Compendium
Methodology

How.This.Works.

Flatoren Compendium operates under a set of principles that govern how articles are proposed, written, reviewed, and revised. These principles exist not as abstract ideals but as working commitments — the kind of obligations that shape a piece from its first draft through to the version that reaches the reader.

— 01. Editorial Principles

Flatoren Compendium operates under the following editorial principles: articles are reviewed by at least one second editor before publication, sources are cited where appropriate, corrections are noted publicly, and writers disclose any commercial relationships that could influence their selection of subject matter.

The publication concerns itself with the ordinary. Not grand interventions in nutrition science but the quieter patterns — how portion habits shift when the working week is compressed, how a change of season influences the fruit a household buys, how a record kept in a food journal reveals tendencies that are otherwise invisible. These are the observations that interest the editorial team, and they inform every commissioning decision.

Writers are selected for their familiarity with the subject and their ability to maintain the register of the publication: reflective, evidence-informed, and resistant to the prescriptive voice that dominates much nutritional writing. An article that sounds like a directive will not pass the editorial review.

Health Content Notice

Articles published on Flatoren Compendium are editorial in nature and reflect the writers' observations on everyday nutrition practices and weight awareness. The content is not intended as professional advice, nor as guidance for the management of any specific condition. Readers with specific concerns about their daily routines are encouraged to speak with a qualified wellness professional.

— 02. Review Process

From commission to publication

01
Commission

An article is proposed either by a member of the editorial team or by an established contributor. The proposal includes a working angle, a list of sources to be consulted, and a brief statement of what the piece adds to the existing body of content.

02
Research

The writer draws on published nutritional research and documentary sources. Personal observation may accompany the research, but claims about food, weight, and eating patterns are grounded in independently verifiable reference points wherever possible.

03
Editorial Review

A second editor reads the draft against the source material. The review checks for accuracy, register, and alignment with the editorial principles. Articles that rely on unsourced superlatives or that adopt a directive tone are returned to the writer for revision.

04
Publication

The finalised article is published with a date, author name, and category tag. If a correction is subsequently required — due to new evidence or a factual oversight — a correction note is appended to the article at the point of the relevant passage.

— 03. Source Verification

How sources are handled

Content published by Flatoren Compendium is selected based on published nutritional research and reviewed for editorial accuracy by a second editor before publication.

The publication maintains a tiered approach to source quality. Peer-reviewed literature on nutrition, dietary patterns, and weight balance carries the most weight in the editorial assessment. Observational studies, long-form nutritional surveys, and documented field records are cited where they add context. Opinion pieces and personal accounts are labelled as such and not presented as research findings.

Writers are not required to have an academic background, but they are required to demonstrate familiarity with the published literature relevant to their subject. Where a piece draws substantially on a single source, that dependency is noted in the text.

— 04. Accuracy Policy

Corrections and revisions

Flatoren Compendium takes factual accuracy seriously and considers it inseparable from the editorial commitment to an evidence-informed approach. When a reader identifies a factual error — a misquotation, an outdated figure, a misattributed claim — the editorial team investigates and responds within five working days.

Corrections are published as inline notes at the point in the article where the error occurred. The original wording is retained in a strikethrough format for transparency. Corrections are dated and attributed to the editorial team, not to the original writer.

Substantial revisions — those that alter the primary argument of a piece — are noted at the top of the article with a revision date. The rationale for the revision is provided in brief.

Classification and commercial stance

Flatoren Compendium is an independent editorial publication focused on everyday nutrition practices and weight awareness. The publication is not affiliated with any commercial, governmental, or institutional body.

No paid editorial content is published under the Flatoren Compendium name. If a writer has a commercial relationship with a brand, product, or service that is relevant to their article, they are required to disclose it in the contributor note that accompanies the piece. Articles in which such a relationship cannot be disclosed adequately are not accepted.

The publication does not accept product samples, sponsored travel, or hospitality from food, nutrition, or wellness brands in exchange for coverage. Any article arising from a media event or product launch must disclose the circumstances of the writer's attendance.
